This 1-day workshop discussed, and took stock of, existing research on Sustainable Production and Consumption (SPaC) in Latin America, reviewed new directions, challenges and opportunities for SPaC research development in the region, and intended to create and develop a network of researchers and practitioners in Latin America (similar to SCORAI in North America).
The intended outcomes were:
Based on the contacts with researchers and practitioners in the region, and on the ongoing feedback, the discussions were clustered around the following topics:
Venue, travel, and accommodation:
The meeting was held on Sunday October 19th, 2014, from 9am-5pm, at the auditorium of the Bar Association of Arequipa, Calle Jerusalén 133, Cercado, Arequipa, Peru.
Lunch and coffee breaks were kindly provided free of charge by The Bar Association of Arequipa for all participants. In order to reduce the costs of accommodation, we made a deal with groups of local residents that are accustomed to hosting international visitors, which enabled a direct and enriching contact with local families. Travel expenses were covered by the participants through their own funding or institutional sponsorship.
The workshop was developed back-to-back with the World Resources Forum (WRF) conference in Arequipa. The main conclusions of our event reverberated publicly during the WRF Congress itself in a specific session. WRF congress began immediately after the end of our workshop through October 22, in Arequipa.
Format of the Workshop:
20-30 participants; being 3-5 participants per themes affinity group. They aimed for consecutive translations of the plenary discussions. The group discussions were held in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
