World Resource Forum
At the World Resources Forum Conference in Davos, Switzerland, October 6 - 9, the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption's Philip J. Vergragt moderated a workshop entitled "Absolute Reductions: GRF-SPaC and the REDUCTIONS Project", on October 9, 11:00-13:00. This workshop presented the first results of the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption (GRF-SpaC)’s flagship research project “Absolute Reductions: Reducing Environmental Degradation & Unsustainable Consumption Trends & Impacts On Nature & Society: Research, Policy and Practice”, supported by IGES. A critical aspect of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) is a global reduction (in quantity) of materials and energy consumption to within ecological limits. Presenters included Lewis Akenji (IGES, Japan), Halina Brown (Clark University, USA), Sylvia Lorek (SERI, Germany), Andre Reichel (Zeppelin University, Germany), Philip Vergragt (Tellus Institute and Clark University, USA). Discussant was Paul Ekins (University College of London, Institute for Sustainable Resources).
On October 9th, 14:00 - 15:30, Dr. Halina Brown, Professor of Environmental Science at Clark University, USA, and GRF’s Lewis Akenji presented plenary addresses and participated in a panel discussion on lifestyles and education. Halina’s presentation was on “Transition to Sustainable Consumption?”.

WRF Conference Program
The WRF program presents plenary speeches by leading experts and personalities from politics, business and the academic fields. Tentatively scheduled are keynotes from Karel de Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade, Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, co-president of the Club of Rome and co-chair of UNEP International Resource Panel, Sylvie Lemmet, UNEP DTIE Director, and a number of other high-level policy makers, including ministers from national governments. Stakeholders will meet up for discussion panels to answer critical questions posed by the moderator and the audience.
A political debate on global resource governance is organised in close cooperation with Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy and Reinhard Bütikofer (Members of European Parliament), and H.R.H. Prince Jaime of Bourbon-Parma, Special Envoy Natural Resources, of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
WRF 2013 will also provide a platform for externally organised workshops on specific topics (this year for example including a special briefing by the Club of Rome, as well as events organised by UNEP and the Swiss Academy of Humanity and Social Sciences), and the traditional Scientific Sessions and Poster Exhibition.
